The downside to these income-based programs is that currently any remaining debt that is forgiven will be taxed as income.”Private student loans have fewer options.As for student loans that youve taken out from a private lender, here’s what Student Loan Lawyer Joshua Cohen (@studentloanlaw) had to say about those:“Private loans are much harder to work with. If you can’t afford the loan, you’re stuck with the eventuality of defaul ting, suffering credit damage, and could possibly be sued. If the payment is affordable, do your best to stick with it.If you have excellent credit and good income, a refinance might work to your benefit to lower the interest rate and obtain a more affordable payment. However, for those who can’t afford the current payment, you’re in a catch-22. You don’t earn enough to refinance to a lower interest rate.If you have a co-signer but still can’t afford the loan, a chapter 13 bankruptcy may be a smart way to protect your co-signer and give you time to pay down the loan. It’s not an optimal solution, but for some there is no other option.”Prioritize payments and consider consolidation.Private loans are also very likely to have higher interest rates. It’s another important factor to take into account when determining which payments to prioritize.“I work on paying off the loans with the highest interest rates first,” explained personal finance writer and student loan exp ert Ashley Chorpenning (@AshleyLCreative). “Not only does this lower my weighted rate but it makes me feel as though I am making progress.”Chorpenning also advised looking into turning multiple loans into a smaller number of loans: “All of my loans are in one place but if you have loans with multiple lenders, you may want to consolidate your loans. This way you can have all your loans organized in one place. This will not lower your rate but it will help you stay organized.”But it isn’t always ideal.“Consolidating is not always the best idea and truly depends on how the loans were originally distributed,” added Hastings.“For example, if the borrower has 10 small loans, sometimes consolidating will actually hurt. Since the interest is determined by the principal balance, a larger principal balance can mean more in interest. Losing the luxury to individually attack loans, which in turn frees up more cash flow, is lost with consolidating.”Regardless, as Chorpenning sa id, consolidating won’t lower your rates. But what might have a chance of lowering your rate?If the situation is right, refinance.Is refinancing a magic tool to lower your student loan rates? Well… not exactly. But it can be helpful in the right circumstances.“Refinancing student loans is popular right now,” Morgan told us. “It can help you save some money on interest. This can often be a good option for private student loans, but I caution people about refinancing federal student loans.One major issue to refinancing any federal student loans is that you would be losing the protections of income-based repayments and temporary stays in payments. If in the future you lose your job or cannot make a payment (sickness, illness, major expenses, etc.) you can contact the federal student loan lenders for a deferment or a zero payment until you get a better situation.This leaves your credit in good standing. If you have private loans through a refinance, the lenders rarely would al low you to miss a payment without issues or reporting to credit bureaus.”Cohen echoed Morgan’s advice: “Is it feasible to renegotiate or refinance? Private loans can be refinanced, but only with great credit and income. This can get a lower interest rate which allows the loan to be more affordable and/or paid off quicker.Refinancing federal loans to get a better interest rate can only be achieved by converting the loan to a private student loan, which rarely makes sense. The borrower loses all of the federal protections and benefits when they do this.”Even if you are able to get a better rate, that rate will be more than zero, so you’ll still have to work out the payment strategy that works best for you.Pick a strategy and then stick with it.Hastings offered these two options to consider:“There are two primary strategies when it comes to attacking student loans. A simple strategy is just to start with the lowest balance, decide on an extra amount to pay towards it monthl y, and pay it off as fast as possible. Wash rinse repeat.“A different strategy would actually be to attack the loan with the highest interest rate first, then move down the ladder. Typically, they usually are pretty even when it is all said and done.”Whatever strategy you pick, it won’t be fun. Abortion Reform vs. Repeal Strategies Compared

What was the difference between reform of abortion laws and repeal of abortion laws? The distinction was important to feminists during the 1960s and early 1970s. Many people were working to reform century-old abortion laws throughout the United States, but some activists argued that these attempts at reform disregarded the autonomy of women and supported mens continued control over women. A better goal, the feminist activists insisted, was the repeal of all laws that restricted womens reproductive freedom. A Movement for Abortion Reform Although a few stalwart individuals had spoken out quite early for abortion rights, the widespread call for abortion reform began during the middle of the 20th century. During the late 1950s, the American Law Institute worked to establish a model penal code, which proposed that abortion be legal when: The pregnancy resulted from rape or incestThe pregnancy gravely impaired the physical or mental health of the womanThe child would be born with serious mental or physical defects or deformities A few states reformed their abortion laws based on the ALIs model code, with Colorado leading the way in 1967. In 1964, Dr. Alan Guttmacher of Planned Parenthood founded the Association for the Study of Abortion (ASA).   The organization was a small group -- about twenty active members -- including lawyers and physicians. their intent was to educate on abortion, including publishing educational materials and supporting research on the single issue of abortion. Their position was primarily a reform position at first, looking at how laws could be changed. They eventually shifted to supporting repeal, and helped provide the legal counsel, Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee, for the  Roe v. Wade  case when it went to the Supreme Court in the 1970s. Many feminists rejected these attempts at abortion reform, not just because they did not go far enough but because they were still based entirely on a concept of women being protected by men and subject to the scrutiny of men. Reform was harmful to women, because it reinforced the idea that women must ask permission from men. Repeal the Abortion Laws Instead, feminists called for repeal of abortion laws. Feminists wanted abortion to be legal because they wanted justice for women based on freedom and individual rights, not a hospital medical boards decision of whether a woman should be granted an abortion. Planned Parenthood began taking a repeal, rather than reform, position in 1969. Groups such as the National Organization for Women began to work for repeal. The National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws was founded in 1969. Known as NARAL, the groups name changed to the National Abortion Rights Action League after the Supreme Courts 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. The Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry published a position paper about abortion in 1969 called The Right to Abortion: A Psychiatric View. Womens liberation groups such as Redstockings held abortion speak-outs and insisted that womens voices be heard alongside mens. Lucinda Cisler Lucinda Cisler was a key activist who often wrote about the need for repeal of abortion laws. She claimed that public opinion about abortion was distorted because of the framing of the debate. A pollster might ask, Under what circumstances would you favor a woman having an abortion? Lucinda Cisler imagined asking Do you favor freeing a slave when his bondage is (1)injurious to his physical health†¦? and so on. Instead of asking how we can justify abortion, she wrote, we should be asking how we can justify compulsory child bearing. The proponents of change always pictured women as victims -- of rape, or of rubella, or of heart disease or mental illness -- never as possible shapers of their own destinies.- Lucinda Cisler in Unfinished Business: Birth Control and Womens Liberation published in the 1970 anthology Repeal vs. Reform: Finding Justice In addition to defining women as needing to be somehow protected, abortion reform laws took for granted state control of the fetus at some point. Furthermore, activists who challenged old abortion laws now had the added difficulty of challenging additional reformed-but-still-flawed abortion laws, too. Nike Organizational Development Structure Nike considers their structure a â€Å"Matrix Organization† (Nikebiz.com, 2010). This structure allows Nike to deal with the fast-moving market and keep their industry leading position. It can be costly, but has proven to be well worth the money for Nike. All work is collaborative; team members report to two areas; known as, geography and the global function area (Nikebiz.com, 2010). People Suppliers/subcontractors that Nike does business with are considered â€Å"outsiders.† In the past, when Nike has received criticism for running sweatshops their first response was to deny that they ever knew this occurred. Interpersonal Intelligence, the ability to understand, read and empathize with others, is a key skill in being an effective manager. Knowing your communication style, understanding metacommunication, visual kinesic and vocal kinesic communication components, knowing the difference between good and bad communication elements, and understanding roles and procedures for effective group and team building are essential elements of Interpersonal Intelligence. #1 Completing the Communication Style Self-Assessment showed I scored highest in assertive, and I had scored equally under aggressive and passive. I am 52 years of age, and have a pretty good understanding of how I interact in a work environment, so I really didn t learn anything new.
